Cyber Security
Service
Securing connected mobility and intelligent transport systems in an increasingly digital world
About this service
OVERVIEW
In a world where vehicles and infrastructure increasingly communicate with each other, cybersecurity is a crucial factor. Connected mobility systems continuously exchange data between vehicles, traffic lights and infrastructure. Protecting these systems against manipulation, misuse and cyberattacks is essential to ensure traffic safety, system integrity and public trust.
Comprehensive ITS cybersecurity built on certification, monitoring and security-by-design principles

The challenge
As cities become increasingly connected and digitalized, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) face growing cybersecurity risks. Traffic signals, autonomous vehicles, VMS signs and public transport systems have already been targeted by hacks, ransomware and manipulation attempts. Weak passwords, outdated systems and insufficient protection mechanisms can jeopardize public safety, disrupt mobility and damage trust.
In connected mobility environments, the manipulation of priority signals poses a major risk. False communication between vehicles and infrastructure could create dangerous situations. The increasing number of IoT-connected devices in smart cities further expands the attack surface.
Our service
SWARCO secures connected mobility systems by implementing robust cybersecurity measures across all communication layers. In Cooperative ITS (C-ITS) environments, communication points such as vehicles, traffic lights and roadside equipment are certified through Private Key Infrastructure (PKI) to ensure authenticity.
The four key cybersecurity principles — confidentiality, integrity, availability and authenticity — are integrated into system design. Data in transit is encrypted using Transport Layer Security, and stored data is protected against unauthorized access. Multifactor authentication strengthens access control beyond simple password protection.
Our mobility management platform MyCity, developed by an ISO/IEC27001 certified organization, is supported by a dedicated cybersecurity team. Continuous monitoring, recurring penetration tests and security assessments ensure resilience against evolving threats.
By combining innovation and safety, SWARCO ensures that connected mobility systems are not only intelligent but also secure — protecting infrastructure, operators and road users alike.
