Founding Consortium Launches V2Xperience Ecosystem in the City of Helmond
NEWS
Accelerating safer and smarter mobility.
During the Dutch Day at Intertraffic Amsterdam, a consortium comprising the City of Helmond, Gazelle, SpectrumFiftyNine, SmartWayz, and SWARCO ITS announced a new CCAM initiative called V2Xperience: an ecosystem in the City of Helmond. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the practical development and demonstration of CCAM-based use cases. With a strong focus on traffic safety for active mobility and the evolution of priority services (V2X) for all modalities in an increasingly complex urban traffic environment.
The V2Xperience ecosystem in Helmond will provide a real-world, operational testing environment where innovative mobility solutions can be trialed, validated and demonstrated under everyday traffic conditions. By combining connected infrastructure, intelligent traffic lights, connected vehicles and bicycles, and data-driven services, the ecosystem enables collaboration across public and private stakeholders to explore how CCAM (Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility) can make mobility safer, more efficient, and more inclusive.
A shared vision from the founding organizations
We bring together complementary expertise across the mobility ecosystem.
- SWARCO ITS contributes its global experience in intelligent traffic systems and connected infrastructure.
- The City of Helmond provides the urban context, policy leadership and ambition to translate innovation into public value.
- Gazelle, as a leading bicycle manufacturer, represents the perspective of active mobility and vulnerable road users.
- SpectrumFiftyNine adds C-ITS capabilities for VRU and OBU
- SmartWayz brings extensive experience in cooperative ITS, CCAM deployment and multi-stakeholder collaboration at regional, national and European levels.
Together we share a common belief: that CCAM can only reach its full potential when technology is developed and tested in real traffic, with real users and in close alignment with public objectives such as safety, accessibility and sustainability.
Advancing traffic safety for active mobility
Traffic safety for cyclists and pedestrians is a starting central theme of the ecosystem. As cities encourage more active and sustainable modes of transport, protecting vulnerable road users becomes increasingly critical. CCAM technologies enable moving from reactive safety measures to proactive, preventive approaches.
Through cooperative communication and real-time data exchange, the ecosystem will explore how cyclists, vehicles, and infrastructure can “see” each other earlier, anticipate risks, and respond before dangerous situations arise. This focus aligns closely with Helmond’s ambition to be a city where innovation directly improves residents' quality of life.
An open ecosystem for innovation and collaboration
The CCAM V2Xperience ecosystem in Helmond is deliberately designed as an open ecosystem. While the founding parties provide the initial backbone, the initiative actively invites other parties, technology providers, startups, research institutes, public authorities, and mobility service providers to join.
Organizations interested in joining the ecosystem, running trials, testing solutions, or simply learning more are encouraged to reach out to any of the consortium partners.
Building the next steps in CCAM deployment
The launch of the V2Xperience represents an important foundation for the next phase of CCAM development in the Netherlands. It creates a shared space where policy, technology and real-world operations come together, enabling evidence-based decisions about future investments and deployments.
We believe that collaboration is essential to unlock the full value of CCAM, and that Helmond provides the ideal environment to demonstrate how connected and cooperative mobility can make cities safer, smarter and more resilient.
